PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course
More confidence. More skills. More ways to dive.
Exploration, Excitement, Experiences. That’s what the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course is all about—and no, you don’t have to be “advanced” to take it. If you’ve just finished your PADI Open Water Diver course (or you’re already certified and ready for more), this is the perfect next step.
At Indy Scuba, we love Advanced Open Water because it’s equal parts skill-building and pure fun. You’ll get more dives under your belt while learning under the supervision of your PADI Instructor, and you’ll come away more comfortable in the water—ready to enjoy a bigger range of dives with more confidence.
What this course is (and why it’s so popular)
Advanced Open Water is designed to build on what you already know and introduce you to new activities and new ways to have fun scuba diving. The course is centered around five Adventure Dives. Each dive teaches something specific, and the learning is tied directly to doing—not just talking about it.
You’ll hone your skills and expand your comfort zone in a structured, supportive way. It’s one of the best “next certifications” because you can take it soon after Open Water and immediately start leveling up the dives you can plan and enjoy.

The five Adventure Dives you’ll complete
You’ll complete five Adventure Dives that introduce you to:
- Underwater Navigation
- Deeper water diving (typically in the 60 to 100 feet range)
- A sampler of three more Adventure Dives from one of PADI Specialty dive class’s
Those three additional Adventure Dives are where the course really becomes yours.
Pick dives that excite you

What you learn
Advanced Open Water is about building real, practical capability—skills you’ll use every time you dive. You’ll work on techniques that increase your comfort, improve your awareness, and help you handle new environments with more control.
Because the course is dive-based, you don’t just “hear about it”—you practice it with purpose. By the end, you’ll have broader experience and a stronger foundation for wherever you want your diving to go next.
Schedule, medical statement & how to enroll
We typically run training during a monthly summer training season. The best next step is to reach out so we can help you choose a start date that fits your calendar.
