Deep Diver

Go deeper with purpose—train for the dives that start where others end.

After your first few scuba dives, it’s natural to want to explore a bit deeper. There’s something exciting and mysterious about depth that attracts divers—and the PADI Deep Diver specialty is where that curiosity turns into real capability.

At Indy Scuba, we use the Deep Diver course to help certified divers build confidence and competence for planning and executing deeper dives. If you’ve ever looked over a ledge, down a wall, or toward a deeper wreck and thought “not yet,” this is the training that helps make “not yet” become “I’m ready.”

The Fun Part

The fun part about this course is exactly what you think it is: the opportunity to explore the deep. It’s exhilarating. Depth changes the feeling of a dive—light shifts, colors fade, and the ocean (or lake) starts to feel bigger and more dramatic. Done the right way, deeper diving is one of the most memorable experiences scuba has to offer.

But we don’t treat “exhilarating” like a substitute for planning. We treat it like the reward you earn by learning how to think ahead, manage your dive, and make smart decisions when depth adds complexity.

Skills, planning, real answers

What You Learn

Deep diving isn’t just “swim lower.” As you go deeper, your margin for error gets smaller and your planning matters more. In the PADI Deep Diver specialty, you’ll build the knowledge and practical techniques you need to approach deeper dives with a calm, systematic mindset.

You’ll spend time learning the principles and techniques needed to complete the PADI Deep Diver specialty, and you’ll preview and practice skills with your instructor. Just as importantly, you’ll leave with a framework you can keep using—so the course isn’t a one-and-done experience, it’s a reference point for future diving.

If you’ve ever wondered things like:

  • Is it true that ascending no faster than your bubbles is a good ascent rate?
  • Can a slow ascent replace a safety stop?

…you’ll appreciate that this course doesn’t rely on myths or dock-talk. We focus on clear, teachable guidance you can apply in real-world diving.

The Learning Materials You Need

PADI’s Deep Diver crewpak (DVD and manual) provides a thorough overview of what you’ll cover in the course. Beyond helping you prepare for training and skill practice, it’s designed to serve as a reference guide for deep diving in a variety of conditions and environments—the kind of resource you’ll be glad to have when you start planning deeper dives on trips or with your regular dive buddies.

The Scuba Gear You Use

Deep diving builds on the scuba gear you already know, and the course helps you think about equipment choices with depth in mind. If you have questions about what you’ll use for training—or what makes sense for the type of deep diving you want to do—reach out. We’ll help you sort through options and expectations before you commit.
