After-dark confidence builder

Night Diver

See the underwater world come alive after sunset.

As the sun sets, you don your dive gear, slip on your scuba mask and bite down on your dive regulator. A deep breath and you step off the boat into the underwater night. Although you’ve seen this reef many times before, this time you drop into a whole new world and watch it come to life.

Night diving is equal parts adventure and calm. Your light cuts a tunnel through the water, colors pop in a different way, and your focus narrows to the essentials—buoyancy, awareness, and clean communication with your buddy. If you’ve been curious about taking your diving beyond daylight hours, the PADI Night Diver course is the perfect way to build confidence and competence while having an unforgettable time.

The Fun Part

There’s something special about turning off your light for a moment and hovering in the dark—quiet, weightless, and completely present. Night dives often feel more relaxed because the environment encourages you to slow down and be deliberate. Your beam reveals details you might cruise right past during the day, and familiar sites can feel brand-new.

In the Night Diver course, we help you get comfortable with the unique rhythm of night diving: planning the dive differently, staying oriented when the world looks unfamiliar, and using lights to communicate clearly. It’s not about “being fearless”—it’s about being prepared so you can enjoy every minute.

Skills that change everything

What You Learn

Night diving rewards good habits, and this course is designed to strengthen them.

You’ll learn how to approach night dives with a clear plan and the right mindset—how to manage limited ambient light, keep your buddy team connected, and maintain awareness without getting task-loaded. We’ll also focus on practical techniques that make night diving feel natural: staying oriented, handling your light effectively, and anticipating the small differences that show up after dark.

By the end, you should feel ready to join night dives with more confidence and to bring a calmer, more deliberate style to all of your diving.

Prerequisites

Because this is specialty training, you’ll want to come in with a solid foundation as a certified diver.

If you’re not sure whether you’re ready, ask us. We’ll talk through your recent experience and comfort level and help you choose the best next step.

The Scuba Gear You Use

Night diving doesn’t require a completely different setup—but it does change how you think about your equipment. Lights matter, and so does the way you configure and carry them so you can manage your dive smoothly.

We’ll talk through what you’ll use for a comfortable night dive and how to keep your gear streamlined and easy to operate when it’s dark. If you have questions about what to bring or what’s worth adding to your kit, we’re happy to help you sort it out.

The Learning Materials You Need

Like other PADI specialties, Night Diver includes learning materials that support what we practice in the water. We’ll help you understand what you’ll need so you can show up ready and make the most of your training.
